Broadband and wireless service upgrade

- By ABISHEK CHAND

TELECOM Fiji is continuing its rollout of Fibreto-the-Home (FTTH) broadband and wireless 4G+ service to customers throughout Fiji.

According to statement from the company the FTTH technology would deliver ultra-speed internet via fibre optic cables right to residential homes.

“Fijians can also choose the high speed internet through the 4G+ mobile technology that is suited for work and home use,” stated the company.

“These services remain integral to Telecom Fiji’s long term commitment for economic growth and improving the Fijian quality of life.

“In order to future proof Fijians internet connectivity, Telecom has invested in expanding fibre infrastructure and improving internet access in more parts of Fiji.”

The company stated a key part of this change had been upgrading and replacing legacy infrastructure, like traditional copper wires used by DSL and cable internet which were originally intended to transmit voice only, limiting the amount of internet data.

“FTTH means that fibre cables will be installed all the way to the homes resulting in faster internet access.

“The fibre technology ensures that households can carry out activities online faster within a shorter period of time.

“As innovation and the use for high speed internet continues to grow, fibre is the only technology that has the capability to support the needed bandwidth.”

According to TFL Fibre ready areas in the Central/ Eastern divisions included Bayview, Rifle Range, Namadi Heights, Suva Point, Navurevure, Upper Bureta suburbs, and Nailuva.

“The roll-out of fibre ground works continues in Domain, Borron St, lower Bureta and upper Wailoku.

“Fibre ready areas in the Western Division include Kennedy Avenue in Nadi and the Simla suburb in Lautoka.

“The Telecom engineering team are dedicated to ensuring homes in the above locations are fibreready.”
