Football boss calls for players, fans to be extra vigilant

- ■ FIJI FA MEDIA

The Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel is calling on teams and fans to be extra vigilant as the Digicel Premier League (DPL) is set to resume next Sunday, October 24.

Patel said while the announcement of the DPL resumption is building excitement, people must not forget the COVID-19 measures are still in place.

“This was one of the most awaited moments for the teams and fans to have football back in action and we are ready to kick off next Sunday with three exciting matches and three different venues,” Patel said.

“I would like to make it very clear to the teams and the fans planning to witness the DPL matches that Fiji FA team will be very strict on the COVID-19 and return to play protocols and there will be no flexibility as far as entry to the matches is concerned.

“CareFiji app and vaccination cards are non-negotiable for entry. If you do not have a smartphone, you must carry a valid photo ID which will be checked at the gates.

“Vax-check tool will also be accessed at the gates where the vaccination cards will be verified as only fully vaccinated players, officials and fans will be allowed.

“Stadiums will be accessible at a 70 per cent capacity and social distancing to be followed at all times.”

Patel is urging everyone to be fully compliant to avoid any disruptions to the matches.

“Everyone needs to be fully compliant and if there will be a breach of any protocols by the teams and fans, the concerned team will lose the rights of hosting matches.

“Let’s work together and get the ball rolling.”

The Unique Rubber Stamp Suva FC will host Online I.T Solutions Ba FC at ANZ Stadium, Rewa FC will travel down to Prince Charles

Park to face Esy Kool Nadi FC while Navua FC will battle Moshin’s Insulation Nadroga FC.

All matches are scheduled to kickoff at 3pm, proudly sponsored by Digicel.
