‘Impart values to the world’

- By LUKE RAWALAI

FIJIANS should celebrate Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday by reflecting on his teachings of humanity, understanding, kindness and forgiveness, says Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry.

Shedding light on the meaning of the celebration, Mr Chaudhry said Milad un Nabi celebrated the birth of Prophet Mohammed, the last of the prophets for the followers of Islam.

“For Muslims everywhere, this is an important day,” he said.

“Here in Fiji, we join our Muslim brothers and sisters in the joyous celebration of the Prophet’s birthday.

“It’s all part of the wonderful tradition we have developed of acknowledging each other’s religious festivals.

“The Prophet said people who live in harmony and have mercy towards one another are similar to the human body, when one organ is in pain, the other organs offer assistance providing relief and support (related by Al-Bukhari) so hence we ask the Creator to grant us guidance towards the true path.”

Mr Chaudhry encouraged Fijians to celebrate the wonderful values imparted by the Prophet to his followers and the world at large.

Also speaking on the significance of the day, National Federaiton Party leader Professor Biman Prasad said as a messenger of God, Prophet Mohammed preached peace, inclusivity, tolerance and ethical conduct, adding that we must reflect on his teachings.

“As leaders, we must acknowledge the significant contributions made to our country by all religious groups, in the areas of education and spiritual and community life.

“This is the basis for lasting peace, harmony and tolerance. It is also vitally important for inclusivity, equality, dignity and justice.”

Professor Prasad made the comment while wishing Fiji’s Muslim community blessed celebrations as they observed the birth of the founder of Islam, Prophet Mohammed.
