SUN Insurance is Fiji’s only 100 per cent locally owned, managed and staffed general insurance company.

It is now into its 22 years of successful operation in a sector that was once the exclusive preserve of foreignowned insurers.

The current principal officer, Inia Naiyaga will retire as the managing director on Friday, December 31 however, he will continue to serve as a board director of the company with effect from January, Saturday 1, 2022.

Sun Insurance chairman Padam Lala said that he headed Sun Insurance during a very difficult and challenging time for the company.

The Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) took over the Compulsory Third Party insurance in 2018 and the Workers Compensation in 2019, followed by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

However, with Mr Naiyaga’s sterling leadership, Sun Insurance continues to perform well.

The chairman also announced the appointment of Tarlochan Singh to succeed Mr Naiyaga as the principal officer with effect from Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Mr Singh joined Sun in 2013 as the general manager of finance and compliance.

He is a chartered accountant by profession (Fiji) and is a council member with the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

He is a senior associate with the Australia & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance; a Certified Professional Human Resources Practitioner (CPFHRI) with the Fiji Institute of Human Resources.

Mr Singh holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Commerce (M.Com) in professional accounting together with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of the South Pacific.

He has a diploma in Integrated Risk Management from the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and he is pursuing his studies for the Diploma in Loss Adjusting from ANZIIF.

Mr Singh has previously worked at a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), Manufacturing & Retail Group of Companies, Hotel and Property Holding Company before joining Sun.

He has also been engaged with the local universities as a part-time lecturer in both the Undergraduate & Postgraduate units in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Management and Corporate Governance over the past years.

Mr Lala said that the board was pleased to have Mr Singh take on this important role as he possesses a wealth of experience in finance, risk management and strategic planning.

He added that Sun Insurance offers top insurance services whether you are an individual client or a corporate client.

“Our mission is to provide fast, efficient service with the ultimate goal of full customer satisfaction,” Mr Lala said.
