French ambassador hosts our 7s team
THE new French ambassador to Fiji, Francois -Xavier Leger hosted the Fiji 7s and Fijiana 7s squad members at his residence in Suva on Thursday evening.
Leger said the event was to get to know the players and officials in the lead up to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
He said this was also a pathway towards the Rugby World Cup in Paris in 2023 and the Olympics a year later.

“Fiji and France, we are both great nations of rugby,” he said.
“As great nation of rugby, we continue to stand out. After Dubai, there will be other events, especially in 2022. At the end of May, all of you will be in Toulouse, the home of very famous rugby clubs.”
He said in the coming years, there would be big events in France that would be attended by teams.
“This gathering sets a relationship with Fijian rugby.”
Leger wished the teams well in future tournaments in the World Rugby Sevens Series.
THE Nadroga football team is brimming with confidence when it hosted its Digicel Premier League clash against Navua at Lawaqa Park at 3pm today.
Nadroga Football Association president Mohammed Ali said despite their two-match losing streak in the last fortnight, winning their final match in the DPL was their only option.
“We’re extremely confident,” he said.
“We’ve beaten Navua on their turf after a six-month hiatus and the boys have a lot of confidence of emulating that feat again.
“The emphasis during the training sessions had been on attention to detail. We have the self-belief, confidence and expectations of a positive result.”
Nadroga is on seventh position in the DPL ladder with nine points while Navua FC are the wooden spoon holders at the moment with six points; a draw would be good enough for Nadroga FC to maintain their premier division status, however a loss by a solitary goal would confirm Navua FC’s position in the top tier of domestic football competition.
