YOUR SAY

Letter writers

EVERY morning, I look forward to reading The Fiji Times and, let me tell you, it’s worth every dollar of my subscription.

I enjoy the Letters to the Editor and everyone’s opinion and contribution as The Fiji Times allows that privilege to all.

In particular, I enjoy Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam’s contribution and his centrepiece story, as this wonderful and selfless human being is forever bringing smiles, cheer, joy to ordinary people’s lives. His charitable and generous contribution to the local community is very well recognised and appreciated.

His occasional sports column is also a pleasure to read.

I salute you sir, keep up the good work and God bless you and your family. STEVEN SINGH.

Blaming dogs

THANK you, Ms Sutherland, for your thoughts about dogs and other animals. Yes, they should not always be blamed for human error.

While we understand strays are everyone’s concern, it’s good to know and see some people have empathy for them and that reflects in their behaviour towards them.

Those animals don’t want much except for some food and love. Some people can’t provide for them but are quick to mistreat or attack them. I love to see people caring for animals and giving them the little they can.

Animals cannot speak but the blessings they give show in their reactions when you serve them well. It hurts when some treat them like they don’t matter.

I was wondering, how about the city council help build some sort of high racks in front of every residence so that rubbish can be left there for collection, which will be higher for the dogs. 152nd anniversary promotion winner Howard Nand in a jovial mood at his market stall. Mr Nand is one of the November winners.

IMAGINE being gifted $152 during these trying times!

When I delivered Christmas cake, tinned fruit, juice and other goodies to a few families who were severely affected by the pandemic, they were thankful and emotional.

Their warmth and hospitality touched me and I consider it a blessing as we prepare to bid 2021 goodbye.

I then realised that whatever little we could do for these affected

Even self-initiatives from people can be much better. Just a thought.

Animals are living souls like us and should be treated better. If you can’t feed them, at least don’t harm them. Even the thought of the authorities wanting to put them to sleep rips my heart. Thanks to all those who are helping with the animal shelters in any way.

Every help counts.

Lautoka families could make a difference as they prepare to celebrate Christmas.

Thus, The Fiji Times’ 152nd anniversary promotion has made a huge impact on those individuals who went smiling with their cheques.

On a daily basis, we have been reading stories from individuals who were blessed with $152.

Another such individual who shared his story was Howard Nand.

He said he received a “perfect gift”

Safe at home

IT’S worth noting that the WHO has urged people globally to cancel some of their holiday plans for their own safety in the wake of Omicron (FT 23/12).

The valuable advice by Dr Tedros – “an event cancelled is better than life cancelled” – is an alarm bell for those who take things lightly, taking risks in travelling

and that he was grateful as the cash came a day before Christmas.

He also shared he was affected by COVID-19 as his business was closed for months and the money would boost his Christmas budget and would help him buy gifts and food for his family.

All the best, Howard, and enjoy Christmas and Boxing Day in the company of your loved ones! RAJNESH ISHWAR LINGAM Nadawa, Nasinu rather than staying home safely.

At times at the end of the holiday, we realise there is no place like home.

THERE are just a few days remaining for 2021 but if there is a way to describe it, then it has to be the Year of COVID.

There was a long lockdown lasting several months.

Unfortunately, some lost loved ones to this treacherous virus.

It was the year of the mask.

Then priorities shifted to the vaccination jabs.

Things got sweeter for many with the arrival of the $360 incentive.

Now, the boosters have arrived.

What a way to end one year and to start a new one, with a booster.

Mild virus

ON the first day after arrival from abroad, my friend was given permission to meet his fiance at the hotel lobby.

Later, he was told he could meet with relatives at the hotel car park.

On the second day, he was told as long as he had a vaccination card, he could visit town.

However, he could not invite anyone to the room.

The irony of it all is after freely mingling with the general populace, he was COVID-tested by a doctor on the evening of the second day. He checked out after the third day.

I now am assured on what the South African authorities commented on.

Omicron may be contagious but mild.

Twinkle, twinkle

TWINKLE, bright star,

three wise kings, followed it from afar.

From the East, they began the trail

to find the new King of the Jews, without fail.

Over desert, forests, hills and dales,

despite sandstorms, floods and even hail.

On camels from the Orient they rode,

following a prophecy they were previously told.

Bearing precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, they finally found and worshipped Him, in the stable of an inn.

So it was, that first Christmas morn,

in that lowly manger, Jesus Christ was humanly born.

So that King Herod wouldn’t know,

they eventually returned home by another road. EDWARD BLAKELOCK Admiral Circle, Pacific Harbour twinkle big
