Caregivers at aged care home farewelled
HINDU religious organisation Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam in collaboration with the Australian High Commission recruited 110 Fijians to provide caregiving support in aged care facilities at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
TISI Sangam national president Sadasivan Naicker said through the partnership, they were able to recruit people for three months to provide support in all aged care homes in Fiji.
On Monday, 16 caregivers who worked at the Samabula Golden Age Home were farewelled during the home’s Christmas party.
“I must thank the Australian Government for the partnership they have done with TISI Sangam because at that time, there was a need after COVID,” he said.
Mr Naicker said aged care homes was one area where provision of services needed to be improved.
Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister Rosy Akbar acknowledged the crucial partnership they had secured to enhance frontline service in the facilities.
“I make mention of the timely assistance from the Government of Australia, through the DFAT funding, to sponsor the three months engagement of qualified officials to add value to the aged care homes in country,” she said.
“I also extend our official gratitude to the TISI Sangam agency for agreeing to be part of the facilitating agency for the recruitment of the staff through the DFAT funding.
“Standing up to the challenge and delivering is an aspect that we are proud to acknowledge as it became an important part of the efficiency that was required to address the fatigue at the frontline as we battled the second wave of COVID a few months ago.”
