Generous givers

SOME of the many Fijian households here in the Western Division, namely in Nadi and Lautoka, received food rations from FRIEND Fiji, FWCC, Sai Prema Foundation, Charity of Hope, our letter writer Allen Lockington and many others whom I have forgotten to mention.

These generous givers put a smile on the faces of receivers. Some of them were bed-ridden, were widows, single mums or unemployed because of COVID-19 and some whose parents/ guardians had passed on. At least they had something to eat during the festive season.

According to FRIEND Fiji’s Facebook page on 23/12/21, they delivered 500 sacks of food rations during the festive season week and what a good timing for families to receive these ration packs when kitchen cupboards were empty and there was no money to restock supplies because of unemployment in the past 20 months or more.

I believe Christmas Day this year is just like any normal day where there is not much spread to share around unlike previous Christmas Day celebrations.

I believe there is hardly any single acknowledgment from Government towards these givers for providing help to its citizens.

I believe it’s your responsibility as the Government of the day to look after those who voted you into power and are dying of hunger and starvation which has been a normal trend since March, 2020.

Vinaka vakalevu to you FRIEND Fiji, FWCC, Sai Prema Foundation, Charity of Hope, Allen Lockington and others whom I have forgotten to mention for your good deeds.

Not doing a good job

I TRAVEL to Lautoka almost every day and I can see that the city looks very dirty with uncollected market rubbish and other garbage.

I happen to ask one market vendor why it was so dirty and I was told the cleaning crew started work at 8am.

With flies flying over root crops and other fruits, I believe it shows that the Lautoka City Council is not doing a good job in keeping the city clean.

The market vendor also said that everything was blamed on COVID-19 and we all laughed at that little joke.

Maybe the council is trying to save money by starting the cleaning late but I believe it is not helping.

Maybe they should be reminded that when you pay peanuts you get monkeys, but in this case when you reduce working hours, your city looks dirty.
