Walesi to look outside Auditor-General’s team

- By WANSHIKA KUMAR

WALESI Fiji Ltd states it will find a more reliable and competent entity to audit its accounts because the Auditor-General’s team does not have the capacity to conduct audits in a timely manner.

A statement from the company read it had submitted all its financials up to 2020 and attributed delays in the audits to the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG).

It stated their 2015 to 2017 financials had been audited and were tabled as part of the Auditor-General’s report in Parliament.

It stated calls for a public inquiry into Walesi’s accounts were “quite silly”.

“Walesi Fiji Ltd has submitted all financials up until 2020 to the Office of the Auditor-General who, unfortunately, have continued to delay auditing and finalising our financials for every year since 2015,” Walesi stated.

Walesi also urged politicians and the media to find out the relevant information before issuing statements and articles.

It stated it submitted the 2015 financials on May 10, 2019, however, the audit began six months later on November 5, 2019.

The 2016 financials were submitted on May 10, 2019, however, the audit began one and a half years later on October 13, 2020, and while the 2017 financials submitted on July 10, 2019, was audited 10 months later on October 13, 2020.

Walesi stated the 2018 financials were submitted on July 10, 2019, and the audit began on November 18, 2021, while the 2019 financials were submitted on October 20, 2020, and audited on November 18.

Walesi stated the audit on the 2020 financials on October 28 this year was yet to be completed.
