School reopening

IT does not seem to make sense, with 805 positive cases so far and two fatalities, that schools this week are to reopen. The MOH says it has got it covered appropriately,

backed by the necessary advice and consultations. ( FT 03/01)

Strict discipline and adherence to policy,

need to be stressed in schools and a must,

such as washing hands, physical distancing and wearing masks.

That may be difficult in our schools, but there is really no other choice, as it is now the normal health safety tool,

for the protection in our schools, of our girls and boys.

All our best wishes to the students and teachers,

you have been given this chance today to make it,

you’re our path and hope for the future.

Use it properly, wisely and safely to be educated, for the sake of the welfare, of your own families and close relations

and the development, prosperity and care

of our small island nation.

Fanta joy

THINGS have certainly changed in Fiji. I didn’t know people can nowadays have such fun with a bottle of Fanta as the picture of Alvin Chand and his family celebrating new year at Lololomo Beach illustrates! (FT 3/1)

Back to school

SCHOOLS around Fiji reopen today for the 2022 academic year.

The rising COVID-19 cases have worried many, but the Ministry of Health and Medical Services supports the reopening of schools. Students from years eight to 11 will be returning to schools after eight months and will be new to the COVID-19 protocols.

However, the Year 12 and 13 students have been through the system.

Teachers will have to be patient with our students considering the fact they have missed face-to-face classes for a long period and some students have been tested by the COVID-19 pandemic emotionally.

Some students have also been burdened with financial struggles and The Fiji Times has highlighted these struggles.

Hence, they will need counselling and support. The guidelines and protocols must be followed.

Parents play an important role in discussing these guidelines. Wishing our teachers and students all the best! RAJNESH ISHWAR LINGAM Nadawa, Nasinu
