Team on track
THE Fiji football team would be marching into camp on Monday at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba for the all-important Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Qualifiers in March 2022 in Qatar. Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confirmed the Bula Boys training camp schedule for two weeks which would be followed immediately by the naming of the final 23-member squad to carry the nation’s hopes of qualification to the pinnacle event of the sport being the FIFA World Cup later in the year.
“The camp is a critically important opportunity to bring the best available footballers together so that the final squad is named,” Yusuf said.
“The selection of the best set of players will be the key element of the training camp. It is an important step to prepare for the OFC Qualifiers, which is coming up quickly.
“Coach Flemming Serritslev will unveil our 23 gladiators for the important task ahead.”
Yusuf said the training camp would be strictly observed under the COVID-19 health and protective measures.
“The training camp will be held in accordance with the comprehensive Safe Return to Play protocols. I applaud the players, staff at Fiji FA Academy in Ba including our medical staff for undertaking tremendous work to ensure the team has a secure and healthy environment for our training camp.
“Fiji FA will always prioritise the health and safety of all the participants at the training camp.”
The Bula Boys are expected to meet again on February 17 for their final training camp in Melbourne, Australia, before departing for Qatar.
Meanwhile, the team is pooled with New Caledonia, New Zealand All Whites and Papua New Guinea in Group B.
