Chaudhry: State continues to borrow heavily ‘Deeper, deeper into debt’

- By RAKESH KUMAR

THE FijiFirst Government has continued to borrow heavily to meet the State’s running expenses.

This, according to Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry in a political campaign flyer distributed at a meeting at the Shree Sanatan Dharam Ramayan Mandali hall in Verata, Nausori.

In it, he claimed the FijiFirst Government has plunged the nation deeper and deeper into debt.

“Our once proud nation is today reduced to begging for money from our neighbours for budget support,” the flyer stated.

“Debts must be controlled and budgets better managed.

“FijiFirst has left our economy in a terrible state.

“We need to reshape our troubled economy, stabilise state finances and regain investor confidence.

“We must maximise our resources and labour potential and create wealth for all.”

Mr Chaudhry further said he was concerned about the mess the nation was in and the growing poverty among the people.

“I know Labour can revitalise our economy and create opportunities that will deliver on your expectations and aspirations as citizens.

“We want equal opportunity and a level playing field for everyone to achieve their potential.”

Mr Chaudhry also claimed FijiFirst has supported the wealthy while neglecting the majority of the population, who languished in poverty or near poverty.

“Economic growth must result in improved lives for everyone.

“Labour has carefully worked out policies to address all these major challenges facing our nation.

“These will be announced shortly.

“It is your duty as citizens to vote wisely and elect a Government that will be clean, caring, competent and accountable to the people.”
