Strong FijiFirst supporter joins The People’s Alliance

- By ARIETA VAKASUKAWAQA

THE suffering inflicted by the Government on the Catholic schools and its tertiary institutions is what made once strong supporter of the FijiFirst party, Felix Magnus, to join The People’s Alliance party in the 2022 General Election.

He was part of a recent campaign with the party leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, at Mead Rd., Suva when he publicly revealed this.

“I was a strong FijiFirst party supporter,” Mr Magnus said.

“I supported every move of the FijiFirst party, but lately we have seen our schools suffer.

“We have seen our Catholic schools suffer, we have seen the school management that brought education and educated our people have been pushed outside.”

He said he sought the blessings of the head of the Catholic Church, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, that he would stand under The People’s Alliance party banner to fight for the rights of their schools.

“I will fight for the rights of our Catholic school teachers, the unemployed. Corpus Christi has been sidelined, and this is where the best teachers came from, Lautoka Teachers College and Nasinu Teachers College.

He said the Government formed the Fiji National University to sideline the teaching institution under the Catholic Church.

“Our children are suffering out there. They need our help. We are high in debt, but we should ask ourselves who will pay those debts. Our canefarmers and villagers are suffering too.”

Questions sent to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama remain unanswered.

Meanwhile, Mr Rabuka said Mr Magnus volunteered to join their party even though they were good friends.
