Volleyball league approaches elimination rounds

- By SHALENDRA PRASAD

A TOTAL of 42 games were played during the fourth round of pool games in the 2022 Rexona Business House Mixed Volleyball League at the National Netball Centre in Suva on Wednesday evening.

With the participation of 40 teams, the four different courts at the National Netball Centre were full of action and excitement as the entire event gained momentum in anticipation of the elimination rounds which begin from the fifth round next week. “It’s great seeing companies and other organisations taking the initiative to have their employees participate in sporting activities to promote an active and healthy lifestyle,” tournament organiser Alan Kumar of Bula Events Group said.

“This goes very well with our theme: ‘A Fight to Eliminate NCDs’. It is great seeing good sportsmanship from everyone and player enthusiasm is very high,” Kumar added.

He said the tournament had set a platform for other companies and organisations to join in the next competition and was thankful to a world-renowned brand like Rexona for partnering with them.

“While an active and healthy lifestyle is very important, so is personal hygiene and this is where Rexona comes in as it has been endorsed by sporting stars and sports lovers from across the world,” Kumar said.

“It will be clear which teams emerge as early leaders as we approach the elimination rounds from round five onwards. Our aim is for everyone to come out and enjoy the night and keep the ball flying since volleyball is a non-contact sport and it paves the way for mixed teams to be part of both organised and leisure competitions irrespective of gender, age and physical appearance.”

Meanwhile, the entire team behind Bula Events Group has commended the Fijian Government for promoting volleyball at grassroots level around the country.

“A few weeks ago, the Government started works on the development of a $48,000 volleyball court at the Ratu Rusiate Nabuta Memorial Primary School in Nailaga, Ba for the students and youths of the area and it is so encouraging to note that the same was done at the Ram Lakhan Park in Samabula, Suva today (yesterday),” Kumar said. “This latest initiative by the Fijian Government is a step in the right direction and we commend the Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar, for making the provision for a total of three such volleyball courts in their current financial year.”

The fifth round of the pool games of the 2022 Rexona Business House Mixed Volleyball League will continue at the same venue on Wednesday next week.
