VOU Hub Fiji in Denarau, Nadi will host the first ever Thumbs Up Fiji Hip Hop Championship next month.

After sealing a sponsorship deal with FMF Foods Ltd, the VOU Hub Fiji and The Festivals Company will bring together Fiji’s young and brightest dancers to compete for the coveted title of Fiji’s best hip hop crew for the ‘Thumbs Up Fiji Hip Hop Championship’ on July 23.

The Festivals Company director Sharleen Ali said the competition was one of a few projects lined up by the company to develop the arts industry in Fiji.

“With hip hop being a growing genre within the Pacific, we took that opportunity to hone our local talents and we want to give them the space and atmosphere to grow within the hip hop scene,” she said.

“The registration so far has picked up and we have solos, duets, trios and crews registered so far and our largest crew so far is from Suva with 15 hip hoppers.”

VOU business development manager Rauvesi Konrote said they were extremely proud to be hosting the championship.

“Fiji has so much incredible hip hop talent and VOU really wanted to create a platform where we could showcase all of this amazing talent and we came up with this Fiji Hip Hop Championship,” she said.

“Together with The Festivals Company we will also be getting together some local vendors, food stalls and arts and crafts artisans for the event.”

FMF Foods Ltd group marketing manager Amrita Priyadarshini said they were proud to be coming onboard to sponsor the event.

“FMF at its core is Fijian and we are at the forefront of trying different things that would appeal to our consumers,” she said.

“There is a space for hip hop and like hip hop is growing so is our brand Thumbs Up and it was most appropriate because we are Fiji’s only locally produced potato, chips producer in the country so why not showcase it with the best talent.”

Registration for the Thumbs Up Fiji Hip Hop Championship ends in two and half weeks.
