Need to strengthen trade interaction
ACTING Immigration director Amelia Komaisavai says Fiji and New Zealand interaction in trade certainly needs to be strengthened.
She informed participants of the recent Fiji New Zealand New Zealand Fiji Business Councils joint conference that New Zealand expertise is required in the development of various fields in the local agricultural sector.
Ms Komaisavai said such expertise would be needed in areas of traditional to semi commerce and commercial assistance to reduce major import commodities and encourage local production of meat and dairy.
“The future of business between Fiji and New Zealand rests upon a variety of factors including taking businesses in an easier and more convenient manner part of which is to celebrate digital transformations to ensure the continuity of economic and social activities.
“This extends beyond just businesses but education, government services, financial sense of E trade, movement of services and businesses towards e platforms that will help address equality of access that exist to create active competition, increase consumer adoption and strengthen the supply chain.”
Ms Komaisavai said improving supply chain was equally important as this would allow the government to understand the importance of strategic and operational security to withstand shocks and disruptions of business model as well as retain competitive advantage.
“It’s worth mentioning at this juncture that we offer pathways for migration for our investors on the basis that support economic to support investment in priority sectors in Fiji and at the same time we protect domestic industries and also the trigger effect to support the economic and social benefits of the people.”
