Claim laughable

‘Fuel’ the pinch!

THE first day of any month is usually exciting as citizens look for good news.

However, July 1 brought the alarming news about the rise in motor spirits by 36 cents per litre.

The news did not augur too well with many motorists, who vented their frustration and anger on social media.

The only relief was the drop in price of gas.

According to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, the increase was because of the “unfavourable movements in international market prices, international freight rates and the US dollar strengthening against the Fijian dollar”.

I agree with the survey carried out by The Fiji Times that we will have no choice, but to use our vehicles and the fact that many members of our household needed to be picked up and dropped off for safety and convenience reasons.

Bus fares have increased and now many are waiting for the taxi fare to go up.

With the rise in cost of living, property rental, cost of goods and services, I’m urging Fijians to brace for the upcoming “rainy days” and save whatever little is possible.

Missing bus shelters

IT is not understood why certain bus bays in and around Nadi have been left without bus shelters.

It is not pleasing to see travellers, which also include mothers and children, exposed to the heat of the scorching sun and rain while waiting for the bus to arrive.

Can Fiji Roads Authority please explain what prevents them from building the much-needed public utility?

In my view, all bus bays must be equipped with a shelter to serve their full purpose. It makes it more important as we are also a tourist town.

It is not a complaint but rather a suggestion which if taken onboard will improve the standard of our living. Thank you. SURESH CHAND

Nadi

FOR Vani Catanasiga to claim that children are scavenging for metal and food because of poverty I believe is laughable and irresponsible.

I believe some parents have been using their children to do these things for decades despite having everything provided.

There is absolutely no excuse on earth for parents to use their kids for these purposes when the Government provides free education, textbooks, bus fare and social help through its ministries.

By making it political, FCOSS has missed the opportunity to raise awareness for parents on how their kids future will be better.

Vani is supposed to be the head of an organisation that helps people, yet I believe she has no idea what she’s talking about and people like her need to immediately resign. KAUSHAL KUMAR Nadawa, Nasinu

Prospect of new government

THE prospect of a new and corrupt free government triumphantly sweeping into power is already on the horizon.

I wonder whether all those individuals (including expatriates) who were appointed to key strategic roles by the current administration will continue to serve their new leaders or seek alternative employment.

I am also curious to know the fate of the likes of Mohammed Saneem (SOE), Ashwin Raj (FHRC) and a few others post-election.
