FROM the vision of a few, the Fiji Institute of Accountants is now an institute that has contributed immensely not only to the growth of the accounting profession but also the economic growth of the Fijian nation.
The outgoing president of the institute Pravinesh Singh shared this at the FIA’s 50th anniversary celebrations at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island last week.
“As we look back 50 years, it is only fitting that we pay homage to our founders and beginnings,” Mr Singh informed more than 150 FIA members.
“The Institute had a modest, but most important beginning.
“It was founded by nine members who had a vision and believed in developing the accounting profession through the formation of a regulatory body to govern the then and future accountants.”
Today, the FIA has a membership of 952 members.
Mr Singh shared in his address that there are 353 chartered accountants now and 52 of these members are holding Certificate of Public Practice.
“Fifty years later, our mandate remains as relevant as ever.
