Gold for family

- By RUSIATE VUNIREWA

MOTIVATION is often the starting point for most choices in life, whether it is one’s career, hobby or spouse.

For Fane Kasa it has always been her family.

She resigned from the judicial department four years ago to pursue legal studies - with everyone she loves on her mind. Today she is a lawyer.

Ms Kasa was one of 24 legal eagles from the University of Fiji’s School of Law who recently got admitted to the Bar of the High Court of Fiji.

She completed her studies with distinction while juggling two of her greatest life assignments as a wife and mother.

“I resigned in 2018 and started as a full time student. “

“After graduation, I carried on with my graduate diploma in legal practice for six months,” she said.

As a full time student, the demands of studies were great. She had to stay away from her family often.

“It was not easy for me, as a wife, a mom and a daughter,” she said.

“There were a lot of late nights and early mornings. So, basically I had sleepless nights for the past four years and six months.”

Ms Kasa said the late nights were worth it all when she was awarded a gold medal.

“I always aspired myself to be the best in everything and being a gold medalist was part of that dream.

She said while attaining a gold medal was a bonus for the hard work she put in, her mentors facilitated that journey to success.

“This would not have been possible without the help of my lecturers. They were the best.”

Ms Kasa added that her motivation to work hard was her family who had supported her education and made sacrifices for her.

“One thing that always motivated me is the fact that I’m a mum. I have to be an example. I also recognise the sacrifices my family made particularly my parents and my step parents.”

“And my husband as well, I thank him for his understanding because it’s not easy letting your wife to go and study but he endured and here I am today.”

She said her advice to all students striving to achieve their dreams was to “always persevere.”

“If you’re passionate about something you need to go after it. Don’t let what people think or say about you hold you back. If you know that’s it for you, go for it.”
