Toast of Nadi bowling

BOWLING in Nadi continues to cross new greens, thanks to the endless efforts of avid followers of the sport in the Western Division.

From club competitio­ns to the latest craze - the weekly business house bowling tournament­s at the Nadi Sports and Social Club, the sport is rolling towards success.

One of the fruits in the soar of lawn bowls in the Jetset Town, Bobby Prasad, has now become the toast of the success after qualifying to represent Fiji to the World Champion Vs Champion Series in Wellington, New Zealand next year.

The Portion Pak Ltd director qualified for the prestigiou­s internatio­nal event after winning the 15th Raj Charan Memorial National Open Singles Bowls title at the Suva Boling Club last weekend.

Prasad was in cloud nine after winning the coveted Fijian bowling title saying it was “Dream come true for me ever since I took up the sport.”

“It was always my dream to represent Fiji one day. The day and the opportunit­y is here as I will be a Fijian flying my beloved country’s flag among the best from around the globe.

“I am so, so happy and I will give my best.”

On his way to victory last week, he accounted for the home club’s Amit Prasad 21-17, then hammered inform Waisea Turaga 21-12 in a lopsided final.

“I have been in top form lately and I want to keep the momentum. I have a mission and tat is to represent Fiji in the World Bowls that will be hosted by Australian next year.”

Prasad is among the seniors in the sport having being partt of the West Bowls team for eight years, had won two Master pairs titles, won the Victor clash singles title, Banana Cup and Pineapple Cup.

He is the vice -president of Bowls Fiji. “I thank the late Raj Charan’s daughter Denise Charan and their family members for their continuous sponsorshi­p of this national event since 2007,” Prasad said.

“The late Raj Charan was a very passionate bowler and had served as president, national selector and Fiji team manager for the then Fiji Bowling Associatio­n.”

Meanwhile, former Fiji bowls champion Panipasa Matailevu acknowledg­ed the Charan family for continuing with Raj’s legacy to sponsor the national event into the 15th year.
