Bowlers roll on to help cancer patient
NOVEMBER is linked internationally with Movember, an annual event involving the growing of moustaches this month to raise awareness of men’s health issues, especially cancer.
Today, not only men will be involved in an act to help cure a Nadi mother who is suffering from cancer.
Women and bowlers in the West are helping a Nadi mother, Sashi Lata, who is suferring from the deadly disease.
Her son is a sportsman and yesterday those close to him pitched into help by organising a bowling tournament at the Nadi Sports and Social Club today to raise funds.
Tournament chief organiser Raymond Singh, who is also well known for helping children living with cancer and under the care of WOWS Kids Fiji, has invited 16 teams to compete today to raise funds to help sick Lata.
“We are once again coming together through sports for a worthy cause,” Singh said.
“The Islands Electric and Portion Pak-sponsored Open Bowls Trips will take center stage at the Nadi Sports and Social Club greens tomorrow (today) with the theme to raise funds for Sashi Lata.
“Entry fees are $100 per team and I have managed to get onboard the full maximum 16 teams of three players each to have a competitive base.
“I thank the teams, and especially Portion Pak director Bobby Prasad for coming onboard despite the short notice to help contribute to the medical treatment overseas for Sashi Lata.
“I call on members of the public too to help, even by turning up to support the tournament. This is for a worthy cause and it is the life of a mother of a family. About 50 players from the 16 teams have pitched into help, your contribution will also help save Lata’s life.”
Reporting time is 8am. Those wishing to help can call Sanjeet Sen on 8461257 or Sham Kumar on 8930662.
