Hard work, determination key for Suva
HARD work and determination helped the Fiji Teachers Union Suva branch to win the Fiji Teachers Union Southern Zone Sports battle at Navua’s Vashist Muni Primary School on Saturday.
Funded by Fiji Teachers Union, the Southern Zone Sports tournament featured Suva, Navua, Rewa and Nasinu.
Suva won men’s volleyball and football and finished runner-up in netball.
Using Indian cricket team Virat Kohli’s quote, “self-belief and hard work will always earn you success”, the Whites engineered themselves to the top of the podium.
Suva beat Nasinu and defending champion Rewa 2-1 in pool matches, but went down to Navua 3-2 in its final pool match. Despite the loss, the side had clinched six points to top the round-robin competition.
District reps Jone Naraba and Ravikash Krishna featured for Suva and played a vital role in helping the Whites win the football competition.
Rewa thumped Nasinu 3-1 to finish runner-up with four points. In men’s volleyball, Suva upset Nasinu, which won the FTU Annual Conference men’s volleyball title, and remained undefeated to win the title for yet another year.
Nasinu won netball and women’s volleyball, remaining unbeaten in both competitions. Suva and Navua finished second in netball and women’s volleyball, respectively.
