She is a star candidate, says Biman
NATIONAL Federation Party (NFP) leader Professor Biman Prasad says he will be very happy if his “star candidate”, Sashi Kiran, gets more votes than him.
He added the party had a bigger objective of serving the people.
Speaking as a guest on The Lens @177, a The Fiji Times production, Prof Prasad was asked by host Anish Chand about the prospect of “star candidate Sashi Kiran” getting more votes than the leader.
“I will be absolutely delighted and over the moon if Sashi Kiran, in fact, she is a star candidate,” he said.
“You know we have Lenora Qereqeretabua, we have Pio Tikoduadua, we have Dr John Fatiaki, Seini Nabou, we have Agni Deo Singh, Basundra Kumar, I mean I’m actually counting many of the stars already.
“That’s why I’m saying that we are predicting a landslide defeat for the FijiFirst party and a landslide win for The People’s Alliance and NFP in this election.”
He said the question of leadership, should another party member collect more votes than him, did not arise and felt it would be unwise for him to talk about leadership.
“I am leading the party into this election and all my colleagues in the party, all 55 of them contesting are solidly behind the leadership and that’s where we are.
“I do like to answer hypothetical questions, I’m saying I’m tempted to answer hypothetical questions but it’s not very wise in politics to answer hypothetical questions. We’re just getting a reality check on how the party will move forward.
“The party will move forward as a united force because we have a bigger objective to achieve, we want to serve the people. It’s not gonna be about who is going to be the leader, who’s going to be that or this.
“It’ll be about serving the people because we are not about going there to look after ourselves, that is one thing that we are going to change, is that government will work for the people of the country.”
