Kula Girls land short

-

THE Digicel Kulas ended its campaign in third place in the Pacific Four Nations Cup that ended last Sunday in Australia.

The Sofi Diyolowai-captained side defeated Papua New Guinea 2-0, went down 0-3 against Junior Matildas, and drew 1-1 against Solomon Islands.

Head coach Flemming Serristlev was impressed with the team’s performance.

“We only had a week to prepare but I think the girls gave their best in all the games,” said Serristlev.

“In the first match, our win was sweet as the team took revenge on Papua New Guinea and won 2-0 which was a good start.

“We were locked 0-0 at halftime against Young Matildas in our second match which was good but due to some key players injured we could do much but they all played their hearts out.

“We had a good run against the Solomon Islands and we missed lots of opportunities but in the end result doesn’t matter as we were there to get more exposure and experience.”

Serristlev said the team had learned a lot playing in the tournament.

“It’s good exposure for the team. With less preparation time, I think it’s been a good journey for us, playing against the best in Oceania.”

“The players took up the series as a challenge that will help will them to grow and better their position.”

He thanked the Australian Government and Football Australia for giving them an opportunity to be in the tournament.

“It has been a fantastic tournament and given the girls three tough matches which are very good for the development,” said Serristlev.

The team returns today.
