THE Navua Women’s football team will enter the 2022 Digicel Women Inte-r District Championship as underdogs , says coach Rakesh Kumar.
“We are preparing well for our debut in the tournament and the morale is high in the camp,” said Kumar.
“This is the first time we are taking part in the IDC and the girls are so excited and looking forward to the start of the tournament.”
Kumar said they would take the tournament as the build-up for next season.
“It’s a proud moment for our girls as they will be rubbing their shoulders against some of the best players in the country and it will be a huge exposure for them,” said Kumar
“We failed to qualify for the Digicel Women’s Super League after going down against Nadi in the playoff but this tournament will give us the opportunity to learn and prepare better for next season.”
He said he would bank on his young players.
“We have a mixture of young and experienced players and I know they will do their best in the tournament,” Kumar said.
“We have been working on fitness and technical aspects.”
Kumar said they were drawn in a tough pool but would take each game as it comes.
“We will play Nadroga, Rewa, and Labasa and we know they are experienced teams but I have been reminding my players to focus on our game plans.” ■
