Reducing carbon emissions on agenda

STRATEGIES, synergies, solutions for a sustainabl­e recovery: 2030 and other critical issues will be discussed at this year’s Top Executive (TOPEX) Conference which started yesterday at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Sigatoka.

This year’s conference was opened by President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.

The annual event is closely affiliated with the President’s Office as nearly all TOPEX Conference has been attended by the past presidents.

This year’s TOPEX will see His excellency engage with Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation’s (FCEF) first program since his commission­ing as the President.

Ratu Wiliame, in light of the efforts of Fijian Sustainabl­e Bond Framework that was launched at COP27 in Sharm ElSheik, Egypt, will also take part in a tree planting session today, the second day of the event.

This session contribute­s towards Fiji’s commitment­s towards lowering its carbon footprints as Fiji is committed to lowering its emissions.

Activities such as mangrove planting and mangrove cleaning has been included in this year’s conference to show its commitment­s towards Fiji’s commitment towards a green and safer environmen­t for all.

The federation’s largest calendar event since its inception in the 1980’s, the TOPEX Conference has become one of the largest private sector events in Fiji. This year’s conference has registered over 280 delegates which will include 26 speakers locally and internatio­nally.

The TOPEX Conference aims to bring in senior executives and the private sector to discuss key areas of concerns and also a way forward for businesses in Fiji.

The event also aims to help businesses to share best practices that help inform changes for members of the federation.

Outcomes from the event will also be used to give direction to the FCEF on the way forward with activities and services to members.

What started out as an event mainly for members of the federation has grown to include executives from the private sector as a whole and also senior public officials from various ministries and government.

The TOPEX Conference has grown significan­tly and continues to support one of Fiji’s key industries, the tourism sector, since its revamp the event has been hosted at key resorts around the Coral Coast and Denarau.

The federation looks forward for an exciting and a fruitful conference this year. The conference ends on Saturday, November 26, 2022. ■
