Battle of the forces

An innocent tanoa

WHAT an innocent Sukuna Bowl is?

She has no idea that soldiers and police officers engage in a bruising and bone-crunching match on the rugby paddock all because of her.

To add to their woes, the scorching heat will have taken its toll on the players on each side.

While Army will enter the match beaming with confidence, I will not rule out police as their experienced and mobile forwards

tanoa

the are likely to frustrate the soldiers.

When the referee blows the final whistle, one can expect cuts, bruises and limping players.

Some may require certified sick leave in the coming days.

I believe some officers may not be allowed back home in the weekend as the joy of celebrating may start with only one bottle but go on throughout the weekend.

All in the name of the glory of such an innocent bowl.

Meanwhile, how old is that tanoa? I just hope that Father Christmas brings me a nice tanoa this year as I will have fresh grog on standby for a baby mix with him or some lovely coconut juice to quench his thirst in the scorching heat.

HEADING to the penultimate battle between Police and Army for the prestigious Sukuna Bowl, Police beat Army 3-1 to retain the football title.

The men in blue led 2-0 at the break, with goals from Rewa’s Tevita Waranivalu and Abbu Zahid.

Christopher Wasasala pulled one back For Army but Police had the last laugh as Babasiga Lion Ratu Anare scored the third goal.

The Police men’s and women’s volleyball teams won, but Army won cricket and netball.

The big one was played yesterday, with the winner having lifted the new tanoa.

The annual clash between the forces has been the pride of both institutions which honour, protect and uphold the integrity of their teams and institutions with pride and honour.

I quote these lines from our sports writer Maikeli Seru (FT: 25/11), “Bloods from injuries will spill.

They will put their bodies on the line. Just like wars, there will be causalities, but as men trained to protect and serve with dignity, honour and true to allegiance, they will not want to buckle or lose in front of their superiors.”

Indeed Mike, the final whistle determined which team drank from the coveted tanoa!
