Strengthening ties
KOREAN ambassador to Fiji Youngkyu Park says he hopes cultural experiences between the two countries would continue to enhance understanding and appreciation of each other’s cultures and traditions.
He said this while opening the 2022 Korea Tourism Photo Exhibition at the Damodar City Cinema cine lounge on Thursday evening.
In his address, Mr Park said the exhibition was a way to celebrate the partnership between Fiji and Korea, while displaying beautiful scenery from Korea.
“Fiji and Korea established diplomatic relations since 1971 and we have enjoyed friendly and cooperative relations over the years and in many areas, including culture,” he said.
“The exhibition features Jeju, the largest island of Korea, Kyungju, once the capital city of ancient kingdom Shilla, and Andong, the centre of Confucianism of the Joseon dynasty.
“Many sites of these places have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and they are also popular tourist attractions for Koreans and also foreign tourists.”
Mr Park added the embassy had been organising various events to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Fijians and Koreans.
“At every event that was held this year I was pleased and impressed by the way Fijian participants showed passion and love for the Korean culture – I sincerely hope these cultural experiences and events will continue to enhance understanding and interests in people of Korea.”
