Conroy was born in Westbury, N.Y., on Long Island, on November 30, 1955 and raised in Westport, Connecticut. The youngest of Thomas and Patricia Conroy’s four children, he grew up in a strict Irish Catholic family that splintered when he was 15 after the alcoholism of his father, an executive with Pan American
World Airlines, drove his mother away. He finished high school early whilelivingwithfriends,andfeltmostat home when he was onstage performing in school plays.
At 17, he received a scholarship to Juilliard in New York City, where he started to hone his acting skills. Conroy began his career in theater in New York and at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
He found success in the late 1980s, first off and then on Broadway, in “Eastern Standard,” a comedy with serious overtones, in which he played a TV producer secretly living with AIDS. After dividing his time between New York and
Los Angeles for several years and flipping houses to supplement his income, Mr Conroy settled in New York full time in 2000, commuting to Southern California when acting work beckoned.
Conroy’s commitment to Batman never wavered. In 2019, he appeared as Bruce Wayne, Batman’s alter ego, in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” - a five-part live-action crossover story spanning episodes of several series on the CW network.
Despite his turbulent childhood, He said he made peace with his parents in their final years. Conroy is survived by his sister, Trisha and brother Tom.
