- By ZANZEER SINGH

THE Tanoa Group of Hotels will invest more than $500,000 to build a sports centre that will be used by visiting teams as a one stop shop for accommodation, meals and training field in Nadi.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the facility was held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Votualevu, Nadi this week.

Tanoa Group of Hotels is under the banner of the Reddy Group which was formed in 1947.

Reddy Group director Rohit Reddy said the Tanoa Sports Centre was the brainchild of their management team.

He said since the border reopening, they quickly realised the number of sports teams travelling to Fiji.

Reddy said there were very few world class and professional training facilities in the country.

“We believe that our investment into a world class sports centre will not only benefit the Tanoa Hotel Group but also Fiji as a whole,” he said.

“It will promote the country as a sports tourism destination focusing on international standard training facilities for our home sports teams as well as travelling international teams.

“Our focus with the Tanoa Sports Centre is three-fold. We will have the best training facilities focusing on the quality of the turf and associated facilities.

“The athlete’s health and safety will be of paramount importance.

“We have removed quite a few trees to facilitate this project, however, we are committed to replanting 10,000 trees to enhance as an added feature to support our sustainable initiatives. For that we will be using bore water.

“We are committing around half a million dollars on phase one of this project to show our loyal sports customers that we are committed to enhancing our facilities and providing them with another added benefit when staying with Tanoa International.”
