Embracing technological platforms
ONE of the sessions on day two of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation’s Top Executive Conference (TOPEX) 2022 was “Business disruptions in the digital age – responding to demanding solutions – embracing technological platforms”.
Session convener Wati Seeto, who is the manager financial inclusion and market conduct with the Reserve Bank of Fiji, said SMEs were adopting technology and digital platforms to improve and advance their business.
She raised the question of technology and digital platforms and its impact on small businesses.
Acton Fiji Pte Ltd’s managing director Shobha Reddy said small and medium organisations had used social media platforms to really accelerate their business growth.
Ms Reddy said e-commerce was another platform that SMEs were making good use of in terms of advancing their business and promoting their products.
She said it was important for businesses to know what made their business and products unique from other businesses that deal with similar products and services.
Ms Reddy said businesses had to invest in technology if they wanted to improve their businesses.
“If you want to improve efficiencies in your business then you have to use technology and this means you are scaling up and growing your business,” she said.
She said Acton specialised in enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions – a system that looked after everything including supply chain for a business.
According to Ms Reddy with most businesses and organisations moving away from paper-based processes to paper less processes, the company worked with such companies to achieve that.
Questions were posed to the Fiji National Provident Fund chief executive Viliame Vodonaivalu on the safety of member data with the fund and its move towards capitalising on financial technology systems available to the fund.
Mr Vodonaivalu agreed that the absence of any competition in the superannuation field in Fiji did make a business case for the fund to capitalise on the available and suitable digital platforms.
He said of its 398,000 members about 220,000 members were already registered on their digital platforms.
Mr Vodonaivalu also assured members that their data and information was safe with the fund.
