Tree planting initiative
AS one of Fiji’s fiercest defenders of the ocean and at the forefront of the national effort to combat and adapt to Climate Change and the protection of our environment, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere launched Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation’s (FCEF) conservation program on the first day of the Top Executive Conference (TOPEX) 2022 by planting a tree.
The theme for this year’s TOPEX held at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island was Strategies, Synergies, Solutions for Sustainable Recovery: 2030 and the launch of the conservation program by planting tree was a great opportunity to reflect on achieving an environment that accelerates sustainability also considering the efforts of the Fijian Sustainable Bond Framework that was launched at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt.
TOPEX is committed towards lowering its carbon footprints to support Fiji’s commitment to lowering its emissions and also supports Fiji’s landscape restoration program through the planting of trees and mangroves under Fiji’s 30 million Trees in 15 Years (30MT15Y) initiative.
To contribute to this initiative, delegates attending TOPEX conference, as part of their activities were also engaged in the Resorts sanctuary activity which involved mangrove planting with moses from the Shangri-La Marine Education Centre.
FCEF was appreciative of the delegates who took part in the mangrove cleaning and planting effort and applauds the delegates that brought along their children to be part of this very important and fun activity.
