WOMEN in Business (WIB) held its annual cocktail party at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Tuesday to celebrate its many successes as an organisation and the recent achievements of its passionately supportive members.

WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali congratulated the winners of the recent WIB Awards event and emphasised the coming together of market competitors as sponsors of the awards; putting aside the rivalries

THE Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) has launched a new Central Securities Depository (CSD) for Fiji, following the launch of the newly upgraded Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System earlier this week.

This is a significant turning point for Fiji as the RBF transitions from physical certificates as a testament to their dedication to the cause.

“We can compete but we can still combine and unite on a common platform promoting the main objective, which is the enhancement of women in the public and commercial sectors.

“We stand for women in leadership and commerce and we will not rest until we have enough females in the public-commercial sector,” said Dr Ali.

WIB stands not only for prominent businesswomen but as a support system for all who have been marginalised and underrepresented of securities to maintaining records in electronic format.

According to the RBF the new CSD will provide an electronic registry and safe custody for dematerialised Government and Statutory Corporation securities and together with the RTGS system enable the trading and settlement of securities on a real time basis or Delivery versus Payment basis. Chief manager financial markets Caroline Waqabaca in their industries.

“We want to tackle all kinds of discrimination, harassment, bullying, pushing women around and not offering them an equal platform.

“We’re very aware we have the power and pressure to do this and we want to do it,” she said of bringing equality beyond just binary gender issues.

The cocktail event bringing 2022 to a close for the organisation, a major target for 2023 is tackling sexual harassment and related issues in the workplace.

said, “One of the key features of the CSD is that it provides safe custody of the securities.

“As an investor you no longer face the risk of losing a physical copy of your securities because it is now in digitised form in a safe depository.”

Besides these benefits, the CSD was also a requirement for the listing of Fiji’s Sovereign Green Bonds on the London Stock Exchange in 2018.
