HE story of Shaneel Prasad and Adelina Narayan began at church during their young university days back in the year of 2013.

Shaneel said during his stay at the university hostel he had noticed a neighbouring church and decided to attend the following Sunday.

“As I entered the church I saw this girl singing in the church choir team,” he recalled.

“After the service she greeted me as a visitor and encouraged me to attend their programs regularly.

“Since I was in an apprenticeship program, the duration of my stay in Suva was only for eight weeks, however, I was able to attend their services for a few Sundays then came back to Lautoka.

“We were not in contact after that because we still regarded each other as normal church members.”

Seven years later he came across a Facebook profile whose name and profile picture were really familiar.

“Though having a shy personality and a reserved nature, I decided to send a friend request and my request was accepted the following day.

“Eventually we started to chat and realised that we had met seven years ago and we became good friends.

“A few days prior to meeting Adelina on Facebook, my parents were pestering me to get married or at least allow them to look for a girl whom I can marry.”

For the 30-year-old, everything started to make sense as to why he met Adeline after all these years and his parents pestering for marriage.

“So we both prayed and I had a strong feeling that yes she is the one and after talking to my parents I asked directly about her view on marriage.

“She took two months to respond to my question, however, in the end her response was yes.”

Intending to marry Adelina the same year he proposed, the pandemic restrictions held it off and they continued dating for two more years.

“The wedding and reception was held on the same day at Jai Narayan College, we had a Christian wedding ceremony from 5 to 6pm.”

After the wedding the couple changed into their Indian outfits.

“All grooms families and relatives wore peach while the brides side wore pink.

“So we decided to have our wedding theme color as maroon to match the bride’s maid’s dresses with little peach and pink flowers on the stage deco to symbolise the union of the two families.”

One of the couple’s favourite experiences has been the visit to Adelina’s home island of Taveuni after their marriage.

“During our stay, we spent a lot of quality time together and also got to meet her other friends and families who were not able to attend our wedding.

“It is worth the wait when God makes us wait, it is worthwhile. God always has a better plan in store for all of us. He will surely send the perfect and right one at the right time.”
