Christmas spirit, tribute Christmas cheer

-

CHRISTMAS is the greatest celebration in any Christian calendar throughout almost all four corners on Earth. In so-called Jetset, Nadi it is rather unfortunate to note that as at 1pm Monday, December 19, 2022, the iconic Christmas tree is nowhere to be seen. (Or have I somehow inadvertently missed it)?

This must truly be a sad sign of the times. I am guessing financial constraints are restricting our township fathers from putting up a Christmas tree.

Festoon lights alone, through Main Street, in my view, do not adequately display the true spirit of the biggest event in the Christian calendar, worldwide, the coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

It appears our Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry are powerless. Our special administrators are equally unable to facilitate in this regard. Our civic pride at such a special annual calendar event is awkwardly missing.

I will stand corrected if my thoughts are proven wrong. I share them most respectfully for and on behalf of most Nadi citizens. This is truly a great pity. I do care for the image we should be portraying to lift the true Christmas spirit in downtown Nadi. A perfect location, in my humble view, is at the roundabout closest to Prouds Motibhai, Tappoos Nadi, Jacks Nadi and RB Patel along the Nadi Airport end of Main Street Nadi. It is not too late, bara bosses. Our well established tourism operators, stakeholders and indentities from Denarau and Nadi Airport, national carrier Fiji Airways, Tourism Fiji and all airline operators through Nadi Airport should be enticed to form a brains-trust. Nadi boasts a huge array of well qualified professionals to lift Nadi’s image, forthwith. Nadi can do much better. RONNIE CHANG

Martintar, Nadi newspapers as I have a habit of reading them again, I came across an article of a very well-known rugby union referee in the ‘70s to early ‘90s. Most current rugby players and supporters or followers do not know the late master Sakiusa Bole. Your F/T 18/12/21 (Pg. 88) had something about his death last year.

Master Bole was quite a character because his style of unorthodox refereeing was a joy to watch, funny in some way and probably fitter than some players because he always followed the ball which was his trademark and that white headband. His sports announcement slot was something we always looked forward to because he was a part time radio announcer for FBC at the time.

Rest in peace Master Bole and for those of us who crossed paths with him on the rugby field, we will enjoy and treasure some of those unique moments. Especially when he did not beat around the bush and told you straight in your face whether you like it or not, to stop intimidation and cheap tricks against the opposing team. In this match, whatever my call during the match, that’s final, because I’m the boss, and if you don’t agree or like my decision, you may cool down outside this rugby field at various minor union grounds in Vunidawa, Naluwai, Navua, Lami and Valelevu.

Thank you Master Bole for your contribution and unpaid sacrifice to the growth of Fiji Rugby Referring and Sports, moving it to where it is today. JIOJI M CAKACAKA Tadra-Votualevu, Nadi
