Awards for RFN 2
TWO naval officers, Lemeki Lenoa, and operations specialist, Mosese Tikicidre, have completed an internationally accredited Search and Rescue Officers Course-Aviation and Maritime.
According to the Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN), the course was facilitated by Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand and Maritime New Zealand, supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of NZ and the Defence Force.
“Over the past six years, six Fijian naval officers have graduated from the intensive course in New Zealand that trains search and rescue officers to standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and International Maritime Organisation (IMO),” the RFN stated.
The RFN stated over the past few months, course participants completed aviation and maritime incident analysis, search planning, rescue planning, search operations management, watch standing and a NZ coastguard boat masters course.
The RFN added Lenoa received the excellence award for having achieved the best overall performance and in exam results for the course modules in meteorology, navigation, aviation SAR, maritime SAR, SAR mission coordinator, manual and computer modeling search planning, maritime chart plotting, SAR organisation, and SAR operation including decoding satellite alert messages. Meanwhile, a number of naval officers were part of the RFMF Joint Task Force CORI MADA-2 (JTF-CM2) and have departed for the Solomon Islands last week.
The RFN said the taskforce was farewelled by its commander Brigadier General Manoa Gadai.
The JTF-CM2 includes four navy personnel; Chief Petty Officer Rokoriri, Leading Seaman Komaidrakulu, and Able Seaman Vasuitoga, is responsible for security and stability in the Solomon Islands.
