Ban lifted

-

LIKE other writers I am also relieved and happy that the long wait and uncertainty is finally over for the family of late Dr Brij Lal who will now be able to disperse his ashes in the country of his birth. In the Hindu religion, such a ritual must be performed within a certain time period for the soul to attain peace. It is believed that undue delay could bring sufferings on the family. The decision by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to lift the ban has also brought the agony endured by his wife and children for almost a year to an end. It must have been really traumatic for them to go through this experience in their lives. But their prayers have been answered and they will now be able to return to their normal lives again. Thank you Prime Minister for correcting the wrong that was done. SELWA NANDAN

Lautoka My simple analysis is this, leadership is about listening to the people and not dictating terms to them as the FijiFirst government was doing, which is in simple terms called dictatorship.

For this, many Fijians lived with fear in the last 16 years hence there was no real sense of Freedom.

Lesson to learn is that freedom is more precious than developments and benefits.

Aung Sun Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace prize winner, said and I quote, “The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear.”

It is clear then, that in the 2022 General Election, Fijians chose freedom over fear. KOSITATINO TIKOMAIBOLATAGANE Vuninokonoko Rd, Navua
