Grant scheme for 7 projects
MORE than $910,000 (EURO387,940) will be dispersed for seven recipients in Fiji and Papua New Guinea of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP)-European Union (EU) Enhancing the Capacity of Cultural and Creative Industries in the Pacific Grant Scheme.
A press statement from the Pacific Community (SPC) outlined the seven projects.
According to the SPC, two small grants have been awarded to Motiv7 Productions Fiji which aims to support the Rotuma Project — documenting cultural heritage, and Tabs Investment Fiji to produce Ukuleles from Mahogany offcuts.
Four medium grants were awarded to Film Fiji to focus on a Producers Accelerator program and a Script Development program, and the iTaukei Trust Fund to work with cultural and creative producers on Rotuma island on skills transfer and incomegenerating activities.
In PNG, the grants went to Papua New Guinea Highlands
Adventures with the aim of establishing a training program for cultural producers and creative practitioners and Save Papua New Guinea was awarded a large grant for its project — Revitalising Bilas: Using peer education, digital literacy training and Information and Communications Technology innovations to empower youth in traditional arts and cultural resilience throughout rural and remote areas of PNG.
The ACP-EU Cultural and Creative Industries Grant Scheme is a threeyear initiative made possible with the financial contribution of the European Union and support of the Secretariat of the Organization of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
The grant scheme is jointly implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is open to the 15 Pacific-ACP member countries including Timor Leste.
The third call for proposals closed on November 11, 2022, and recipients will be announced in 2023.
