Grant scheme for 7 projects

MORE than $910,000 (EURO387,940) will be dispersed for seven recipients in Fiji and Papua New Guinea of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP)-European Union (EU) Enhancing the Capacity of Cultural and Creative Industries in the Pacific Grant Scheme.

A press statement from the Pacific Community (SPC) outlined the seven projects.

According to the SPC, two small grants have been awarded to Motiv7 Production­s Fiji which aims to support the Rotuma Project — documentin­g cultural heritage, and Tabs Investment Fiji to produce Ukuleles from Mahogany offcuts.

Four medium grants were awarded to Film Fiji to focus on a Producers Accelerato­r program and a Script Developmen­t program, and the iTaukei Trust Fund to work with cultural and creative producers on Rotuma island on skills transfer and incomegene­rating activities.

In PNG, the grants went to Papua New Guinea Highlands

Adventures with the aim of establishi­ng a training program for cultural producers and creative practition­ers and Save Papua New Guinea was awarded a large grant for its project — Revitalisi­ng Bilas: Using peer education, digital literacy training and Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology innovation­s to empower youth in traditiona­l arts and cultural resilience throughout rural and remote areas of PNG.

The ACP-EU Cultural and Creative Industries Grant Scheme is a threeyear initiative made possible with the financial contributi­on of the European Union and support of the Secretaria­t of the Organizati­on of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

The grant scheme is jointly implemente­d by the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is open to the 15 Pacific-ACP member countries including Timor Leste.

The third call for proposals closed on November 11, 2022, and recipients will be announced in 2023.
