Meet discusses sector prospects
FIJI has all the right ingredients to be the formidable player in terms of the outsourcing sector, says Manoa Kamikamica, the newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, SMEs and Cooperatives.
“The outsourcing industry hits all the right spots in terms of diversifying the economy; growing opportunities for the youth population, especially with the great literacy rates; we speak great English as well,” Mr Kamikamica said.
A media release from Outsource Fiji (Business Process Outsourcing Council of Fiji) yesterday said their executive director Sagufta Janif met Mr Kamikamica last week to discuss the prospects of Fiji’s outsourcing industry.
Ms Janif said the industry body was grateful to see the Government’s support towards the industry as it was still in its infant stages and had the ability to become one of the leading sectors in Fiji’s economy.
“I wish to acknowledge the former Government, as well as the incoming Government for putting Fiji’s outsourcing industry in its priority list.
“We have the seen the industry grow at a rapid pace over the past two-three years and with the support from the Fiji Government and our stakeholders, we can put forward so much for international businesses as well as for the people of Fiji.
“It is a win-win situation,” said Ms Janif.
The media release from Outsource Fiji stated that Mr Kamikamica commended Outsource Fiji for its efforts to promote Fiji as an outsourcing destination of choice.
“The council needs to be congratulated for creating genuine momentum from scratch.
“I remember when I was in the BPO Council, we were in the process of setting up a bank account, and here we are talking about initiatives that will help Fiji attract larger players – so clearly, we need to understand how the Government can continue to help,” said Mr Kamikamica.
