Sunday, January 8, 1985 Drevula wins in top form A slick Drevula team was in top form at the National Stadium in Suva yesterday when they demolished Rewa Dairy 36-12 in the opening round of the Suva basketball knockout competitio­n. Ably coached by Sportswoma­n of the Year 1983 Marica Mudunavonu, Drevula pressed the panic buttons of their opponents, wowing the 300-strong crowd with some copy book moves. Judy Yee Joy zapped in Drevula's first basket after three minutes of play and after another lay-up 30 seconds later, Drevula was away.

School threatened with industrial action

The Fiji Teachers Union has threatened a Suva high school with industrial action over the sacking of a senior science teacher. The teacher, Raman Lal Vasram, a New Zealand science graduate, was sacked by the board of governors of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School at the end of the 1983 school year. Sunday, January 8, 1982

Fall victim recovers in hospital

A 24-year-old man is recovering in Labasa Hospital from severe head injuries he received when he fell off the back of a truck. The accident occurred when Joseva Vulaca, of Vuya village, was trying to prevent furniture from falling off the truck. The furniture-laden truck with Vulaca sitting on the back was going from Labasa to Bua. Sunday, January 8, 1980 Detectives on house-breaking cases

Detectives in Suva are investigat­ing two cases of daylight housebreak­ing, the first such cases after a lapse of eight months. The official police spokesman, DSP Kiniviliam­e Volavola, said yesterday these two cases were the first since the Neighbourh­ood Watch anti-crime scheme was introduced eight months ago. Thieves broke into the Amputch Street,Tamavua, home of the. French Embassy Administra­tive attache, Catherine Willart and walked away with radio cassette player worth $720.

THE latest thing in the duty free trade is the special "Customs knot", we hear. First the tourists were being asked for "beer money" for specially wrapped parcels which the Customs officers would not fuss over. Now they are being told to add a "few extra dollars'' to the total purchase price if they want a special "Customs knot'' tied over their parcels. The tourists are told that Customs officers will not bother them if they see the special knot, our sources say.
