FASA boss thankful for ‘answered prayers’
I PRAISE God prayers.
These were the words of a grateful Federated Airline Services Association (FASA) president, Semisi Turagabaleti, as he welcomed comments by Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka that former Airline Terminal
for answered
Services who were axed in 2020 would get their jobs back.
“For the members of FASA, including me, it’s been almost three years since our fight to be reinstated began and we are grateful to God that our prayers are being answered through this Government,” Mr Turagabaleti said.
“Just talking to the members, there’s a lot of happy families that are full of joy and we are hopeful for the future.
“We have a Government that is really for the people and most of all that they are willing to work with the union and recognising workers in our nation.”
He said they recognised that there was still a lot of work to be done.
“There is still a lot to be done because we understand that there are workers working right now who are not under the Collective Agreement.
“They have taken on workers on short-term contracts. They started with day contracts and moved to three-year contracts so that is still something that the union will still need to discuss with the ATS management team.
“In terms of numbers, we still have to ascertain the total number of workers that are willing to return to ATS. Some have moved offshore to find employment while a few have found jobs in other entities, so the numbers would have been reduced,” Mr Turagabaleti said.
“So we have to sit down with management and discuss these issues but what the Government has done is the first step in the right direction for us.”
