Kumar to rekindle interest
POSTGRADUATE Diploma in Climate Change (Disaster Resilience Emphasis) student Jesh Kumar says as a young professional, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has always been an interest of his.
Mr Kumar said under the JENESYS Program he will be a part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) theme.
“We see that SDGs facilitate the alignment of corporate strategy with the needs of today’s society,” he said.
“This is particularly for the Pacific, where the sustainable development efforts are being central to achieving inclusive, stable societies and averting the threats and challenges to sustainable development.
“This includes the impacts of climate change, poverty, gender inequality, and migration.”
The 28-year-old who works at the Office of the Prime Minister as a project planner said he was honoured to be a part of the 110 selected students selected for the youth exchange program.
“I am honoured to be part of a team that represents Fiji in sharing the vibrant Fijian culture and heritage which encompasses of a mix of Oceanic, European, South Asian and East Asia origins.
“As one of the highly industrial nations in the world, Japan has implemented measures for the 2030 Agenda through implementing its laws on sustainability and prioritising sustainability in the form of regional decarbonisation and solar self-sufficiency to name a few.”
He said this was a great opportunity to see how “green” projects such as these operate and a learning ground for a country such as Fiji to consider implementing in the near future.
Originally from Rakiraki, Mr Kumar’s message to youths is “as young individuals, don’t let the fear of failure stop you from doing anything new, you will either succeed or fail and learn – it’s a win-win.
“The youth are the torchbearers of the 2030 Agenda and the younger generations have the power to make their voices heard and to raise awareness of the socioeconomic and environmental problems that plague the planet.”
Mr Kumar’s hobbies include writing, photography, hiking, and playing chess.
