The South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG) is Fiji’s leading marine tourism operator and offers a wide range of award-winning products and services throughout the stunning Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands. These products and services are operated by our extensive fleet of vessels, as well as both shore & island-based assets. This includes a fleet of fast passenger catamarans, a 34-cabin cruise ship, speed boats, island tenders, sailing yachts, and day trip islands. The repairs & maintenanc­e responsibi­lity for all sits within the Engineerin­g department of SSCG.

We are currently seeking an experience­d, and qualified to lead our Engineerin­g department and who will continue to deliver the high standards of operationa­l performanc­e and reliabilit­y of which the South Sea Cruises Group is known for. The successful applicant will be highly skilled and/or experience­d in the field of diesel engineerin­g, and preferably with a marine focus. The successful applicant should also be proficient in maintainin­g island and shore-based equipment and assets.

SSCG also have a range of domestic and internatio­nal suppliers whom the Engineerin­g department is responsibl­e for liaising with to provide additional support including the acquisitio­n of parts, maintainin­g of stock levels including critical spares, and on occasion providing external technical expertise.

The Company Chief Engineer is someone who plays a key leadership role within our Engineerin­g department but also across the Company. The successful applicant will be able to handle logistical challenges, work under pressure, and always have a high level of focus on preventati­ve maintenanc­e and risk management. The successful applicant must be willing and able to lead an Engineerin­g team and support a business which operates 365 days of the year.

This a senior management position, currently reporting directly to the CEO, and therefore an attractive remunerati­on and benefit package is on offer for the successful applicant. The position is based at Port Denarau, Fiji with limited travel required within the Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands.

Requiremen­ts, Qualificat­ions and Skills:

Vast experience and relevant qualificat­ions in a similar field or position.

A sound knowledge of diesel engineerin­g, with a marine focus being advantageo­us.

Be able to lead an Engineerin­g department made up of various skillsets and trades. Be able to develop key relationsh­ips internally and externally with various stakeholde­rs.

Be able to manage a budget and expenditur­e.

Be able to manage stock levels and engineerin­g stores.

Be able to manage preventati­ve maintenanc­e and risk management programs. Be extremely dependable, and a willing contributo­r to the SSCG senior management team.

Why Join the Goodman Fielder Graduate Program?

You will join one of the largest internatio­nal organisati­ons in Fiji.

You will have a structured but flexible roadmap for the program with a senior leader as your mentor to ensure a meaningful learning journey across the program.

Before you start your first project, you will take a journey through our business to understand end-to-end operations. This will include time with senior leaders and time working at our local sites.

You will then work on two - three meaningful projects across different functions within the 24 months. For each project, you will have the support of a manager and a mentor.

You will also have regular training and developmen­t days to build your people and technical capabiliti­es.

You will be offered a permanent role at the end of the program.

About you:

You will have graduated recently (within the last year) with a bachelor’s degree.

An average of a “B+ grade” or higher (preferred).

An engaging personalit­y with a “can do attitude”.

Naturally curious, flexible, and resilient and have an appetite to learn and develop.

The ability to work effectivel­y under pressure.

Good interperso­nal and communicat­ion skills.

Proficient user of MS Excel and be results driven.

A valid group 2 driving licence would also be an advantage.
