Greetings from Fijian students in China

-

AS comprehensive strategic partners, China and Fiji have fostered enduring people-to-people exchanges in various areas including education.

Around 300 Fijian students have studied in China under the Chinese Government Scholarship scheme since 1996 and many of them are working in different industries to serve Fiji now.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese Government has always been caring about the international students, making lots of efforts to assist students study in campus on the premise of ensuring students’ safety and health. In 2022, the Chinese Embassy in Fiji has assisted over 40 students to return to China.

Let’s have a look of their happy scenes in China and their best wishes to family in Fiji.

Nividita Chand - Ph.D scholar in Infromation Technology and Digital Agriculture at Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences:

“A happy new year to everyone in Fiji, from Ashmit Kumar and I.

We are very thankful for each year that comes by for receiving the CSC scholarship and getting a step closer to fulfilling our dreams of becoming Ph.D. holders in our respective fields.

We want to take this opportunity to appreciate every individual and organisation that has helped us follow our dreams: the Chinese scholarship council, the Fijian embassy in China, Fiji National University, the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, and to our friends and the Kumar and Chand family in Fiji.

A happy new year to everyone; we hope the year of the rabbit is the most enriching year for everyone in Fiji; sending all our love from China.”

Manasa Vakalalabure - Third year Bachelor student majoring in Hospitality Management at Shanghai Normal University:

“It’s been a tough ride for the past three years due to covid but we’ve been looked after very well here in China especially from the university in terms of food, health and so on.

Studying here in China has given me an opportunity to make new friends and understand Chinese culture and traditions. China is so convenient in every aspect like transport and takeouts, there’s no need to carry cash etc. Before coming to China I couldn’t eat spicy food but after living here for three years I’m already used to spicy food.

The years have gone by so quickly and I miss my family every time.

Since it’s 2023 I would like to send my well wishes to all my paternal and maternal family members a blessed and prosperous 2023.

May this year be a year of fulfillment, achieving goals and continuing excellence in everything we do. God bless and stay blessed. Much love and loloma from Shanghai China.”

Makereta Tikomaihawai - First year Bachelor Student majoring in International Trade at Beihang University:

“The school and the environment is amazing and it’s huge. The teachers and the International Department staff are so understanding and very friendly.

I love my dorm. Thank you so much for everything and also a huge thank you to the ambassador and the team of the Chinese Embassy for the great help and all that you’ve done for me. It’s been a blessing and it still is. I am still in awe!

Grateful and thankful to God for all your lives. I am indeed a blessed student.”

Ratu Samuela Uluikavoro - Now studying Chinese Language in Jilin University and will study MBBS in Dalian Medical University this July:

“I like China very much. Love the food and the view is nice. Teachers here are very helpful even we struggling learning Chinese language.

I’m glad I’m given the Chinese scholarship, it’s really worth a lot.”

Ilaisa Tarai - Now studying Chinese Language in Northeast Normal University and will study Computer Science in Anhui University this July:
