Principal happy with results
JAI Narayan College principal Rajendra Kumar is over the moon after the Suva-based school achieved a 96.4 per cent pass rate for the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination.
The highest mark of 393 out of 400 was scored by 18-year-old Demira Lal.
He said he was overwhelmed by the effort and sacrifices of the students and teachers and very pleased with the 100 per cent pass in technical drawing, computer science, geography and home economics.
“The teachers need to be acknowleged, without their guidance we would not have obtained these results,” Mr Kumar said.
“The subjects where we recorded 100 per cent pass rate — the onus goes to the hardworking teachers and the students too — because at the end of the day they sacrificed their time at home to attain these results.”
Mr Kumar said the students prepared well for the external examination.
“We have the Jai Narayan College academic advancement program which starts in Term Two.
“Under the program, we have quizzes and students are given 15 minutes to attempt each question.
“The papers are collected by the teachers, marked and discussed with the class during the day.
“That not only assisted the students but also improved their attendance too,” he said.
“We will continue to improve the resources at the school, particularly the technical resources and invest more in computers and internet so that our children have better access to research.”
Mr Kumar said they were also expecting good academic results for Year 12.
A total of 7751 students from around the country sat for the Year 13 national examination and recorded a pass rate of 88 per cent.
