- By ANA MADIGIBULI

CHOOSING the right product at an affordable price is a skill that many mothers like Sainimili Sadrau Lagilagi have when it comes to shopping.

Mastering the skills of buying the best for your family takes years of practice and for Ms Lagilagi being able to do it every week is a life skill.

The mother of two who takes her daughter with her for grocery shopping says she enjoys her time out picking the right products for her family, especially buying them for an affordable price.

Ms Lagilagi targets special deals, discounts on items and is conscious of expiry dates and goods that are not fresh.

“We check for the expiry dates first and also the quality of products we have,” she said.

“It’s also important to check prices; some things are sold at high prices when it’s supposed to be sold at a cheaper price.”

She said her mum helps share the burden of grocery shopping.

“My mum likes to go to the market for our other supplies. She is a specialist when it comes to picking the right ingredients for meals, especially from the Suva Municipal Market,” she said.

“She also does the grocery shopping and she has specific supermarkets that she shops at.”

She said their grocery list for the supermarket every week has toiletries, sugar, flour, rice, soya bean oil, milk, dhal, butter, onions, garlic, tinned fish and noodles listed down.

For their market list, it has root crops, fish, fruits and vegetables.

She added that her favourite recipes are curry chicken and the traditional fish and lolo with bele and cassava dish.

She encourages shoppers like her to buy responsibly and to shop smart when heading out shopping.
