Message to his OBs
PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says old boys of Queen Victoria School (QVS) in Parliament should treat every Fijian equally.
While addressing the Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) thankgiving service at Centenary Church on Sunday, Mr Rabuka said those were the traits of a good leader.
The church service was held to honour the appointment of Mr Rabuka and other parliamentarians who were educated at QVS.
“As old scholars of QVS, we should focus on the idea behind the establishment of the school which is to produce good leaders with a vision for unity and growth in our beloved country Fiji,” he said.
“We also assure now that we will listen not only to our old scholars but the current students as well should there be a need for dialogue concerning our association and the school.”
Mr Rabuka said after the 2022 General Election, there were 11 old scholars from the prominent Tailevu boys’ school who were elected members of Parliament.
“It is prudent that we remember the values that we were brought up with to make us good and accountable leaders.”
Mr Rabuka said QVS would always be a special place with many fond memories for those who went through that school.
“We are blessed that a decision was made to also allow us nonchiefly students to attend it as well knowing that the school was originally intended to groom our chiefs for future leadership hence the name vulinituraga.
“Such wisdom and wise decision have seen many of us take leadership roles not only in government but in other organisations as well.
“The 70th anniversary of the school is coming up and we look forward to hearing from our committee the plans in place and our different roles in the celebration.
“On behalf of all of us, we thank you for this wonderful occasion and we look forward to working together with all of you.”
The late prime minister Laisenia Qarase’s spouse, Leba Qarase, was also acknowledged by Mr Rabuka at the service.
