- By SHANELLE PRASAD

LAST week commander Timoci Natuva, the Republic of Fiji Navy Chief of Staff officiated the graduation of 115 navy.

According to RFN's social media post, the sailors had successfully completed an eight-week basic branch, maritime law enforcement and lead-self training.

“The BBT, MLE and LS training were the second phase of training for the 115 sailors who had recently completed enlistment training in late 2022,” the RFN stated.

The RFN stated the training program prepared the newlyenlisted sailors for their speciality branches which they would be posted to this week.

Meanwhile, in another social media post, the RFN stated that

CONTAINER shipping line and vessel operator, Maersk, has announced their intentions to move towards a singular and unified brand through integrating brands such as Hamburg Sud, Sealand, Twill as well as newer acquired brands.

According to an advisory published on their website (www.maersk.com) last week Friday, Maersk said it was convinced the move towards a united brand would allow them to respond to customers logistical needs better.

"Our multi-brand approach has served us well over the years and all our brands have been successful in meeting the needs of customers," Maersk noted.

"We realise that our current brand structure doesn't reflect the way you, our customers, have your supply chains structured, and the need you have for end-to-end visibility and ability to drive outcomes.

"Through this, we aim to unify our brands and our structure to better reflect the reality of our customers supply chain challenges, giving you more multimodality options and connectivity, all under one roof.

Commodore Humphery Tawake hosted defence attaches and assistant defence attaches for a morning tea at the RFN headquarters last week.

In his remarks, Tawake said the navy was appreciative of the continued support from its defence partners.

Defence partners collaborate and engage in defence exchanges, deployments and exercises in each other's jurisdiction, among other areas.

Defence partnerships allow for engagement in maritime security and search and rescue operations, in the quest to maintain a resilient and secure region.

Commodore Tawake also introduced key RFN principal officers who had taken up new appointments this year.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen reports it is is able to conclude on the future of each brand in different geographies.

Hamburg Sud, a historic name in the shipping industry dating back to 1871, was initially acquired by the company in 2017 while Sealand was acquired in 1999. Maersk said their non-integrated brands APM Terminals, Maersk Container Industry, Svitzer, Maersk Supply Service and Maersk Line Limited which follow a different business model would continue to operate under their existing brand.

"The move is not a cost-cutting effort but a global branding program designed to highlight the benefits of the unified logistics network.

"Throughout the transition, current account teams and terms and conditions (contracts, payment terms, etc.) will remain the same, and no changes are expected on your account and on how and who you interact with."

Earlier last week, Maersk had also announced they would be ending their eight-year partnership with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), known as 2M, in 2025.
