Snow keeps team indoors

- By RODNEY DUTHIE

DESPITE a snowing Vancouver, Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s coach Saiasi Fuli will use it as a learning curve for his players.

The whole of British Columbia has been covered in snow, causing travel delays because of road closures.

Even training fields which the Fijiana were to have trained at was covered in white, forcing the team to train indoors. But it is something Fuli and his players will work around.

“It’s snowing here in Vancouver,” Fuli said from Canada yesterday.

“Hopefully the weather will be OK in the weekend, preferably warm since we will play under the roof at the BC Stadium.

“Sevens rugby is about adaptability and that is what we are doing in the past few days.”

The Fijiana head into the Vancouver 7s placed sixth on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, 16 points behind fifth-placed Ireland.

The Rusila Naqasau-captained side faces series leaders New Zealand, Great Britain, who are also on 36 points, and Colombia in Pool

A. On Saturday, they face Great Britain at 5.59am and Colombia at 12.14pm. On Sunday they take New Zealand at 7.06pm.

“We have another tough pool of NZ, Great Britain and Colombia. Our primary goal is to win maximum points this weekend as we chase down Ireland,” Fuli said.

“Nothing is impossible despite bringing lots of new players. We will give our best shot.

“Most of our senior players will be available right in July/September so I’m giving more international exposure to our new players.”
