Lead peers with respect

- By WATA SHAW

NEWLY inducted prefects of Suva Special School were reminded to lead with respect, self-awareness and accountability among their peers.

While addressing the 25 student leaders, Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Sashi Kiran acknowledged the hard work by the prefects and urged them to lead by example.

“The Suva Special School motto speaks out that ability shines through and those of you being inducted as prefects will mentor and encourage your peers to shine,” she said.

“I do know you are a jewel of talents and skills.

“Some of you become prefects today. Being a prefect, some of the responsibilities is to take care of others and ensure to lead and be able to do what we expect in others.

“You have been trusted with an important responsibility and you will need to be accountable and lead by example.”

She encouraged parents and teachers to provide the love and care needed by the children to live their life to their fullest potential.

“You are very important actors in the lives of the children as your teachings, proper guidance helps shape these children to be better citizens of our beautiful country and helps develop our beloved Fiji into a knowledge-based society.

“In Fiji we lack many of the services needed by our special needs children. It’s the love and perseverance of the parents and teachers that helps them grow and I thank you.”

Ms Kiran added the ministry supported by the Fijian government, and was committed to ensuring access to quality education for children living with special needs.
